WOMEN ARE THE CHANGE.

NOW is the time to listen.

And I think that is why I have been finding it hard to find the words to articulate, how the women in our country are feeling.

This week we saw thousands protest gendered violence, sexism and the war women continue to face each day.

Women are angry.

Women want to be heard.

Women are to be taken seriously.

Women are to be believed.

Women are to feel safe.

In the past few days there has been a shift, there has been a revolutionary call and its voice is female.

I remember reading this recently:

β€œπ™„ 𝙖𝙒 𝙣𝙀 π™‘π™€π™£π™œπ™šπ™§ π™–π™˜π™˜π™šπ™₯π™©π™žπ™£π™œ π™©π™π™š π™©π™π™žπ™£π™œπ™¨ 𝙄 π™˜π™–π™£ 𝙣𝙀𝙩 π™˜π™π™–π™£π™œπ™š. 𝙄 𝙖𝙒 π™˜π™π™–π™£π™œπ™žπ™£π™œ π™©π™π™š π™©π™π™žπ™£π™œπ™¨ 𝙄 π™˜π™–π™£ 𝙣𝙀𝙩 π™–π™˜π™˜π™šπ™₯𝙩.”

And this is where I feel women are at.

We are changing the things we won’t accept.

It has been the same shit different decade, for centuries. Women’s rights are human rights.

What has unfolded in Canberra, is not news. Women have been at the end of violence and harassment, in cities, country towns, in public, behind closed doors and all workplaces.

Women have lived their lives wondering what lurks around the corner; have held their keys at night as weapons; have learned to get on with life; ignore it, shut up about, accept it is part of life.

Women have thought and been told it is their fault; that they are liars; they were drunk; they asked for it. Each story very different, but the message is the same.

Women have now got to a point where enough is enough.

We should not accept violence in any form, women should not accept to be treated without respect or rights.

Women won’t accept being silenced any longer by shame, hurt, pain or suffering. Women must be accepted for their hurt, pain, suffering and strength.

The power of change lies in giving voice to women’s stories.

The power of change is found in the courage of women who are changing the things they can not accept.

Women are the change.

And WE are here.

Big Love
